TAKING WING

Thursday, November 29, 2007 8:30 PM

I feel like a bird that has just taken its first flight out of the nest into unexplored sky! After weeks of reading other people's blogs, I've decided to launch one of my own. I had to think carefully about what my content would be and about the things that mattered most in my life at this point in my earth journey.

What I've come up with is my life-long love of nature and music, and to me they go hand in hand. When I first read Tolkein's The Silmarillion and the opening section "The Music of the Ainur" and how their songs created the world, I was quite simply blown away by its beauty and power. It matched so exactly how I felt about nature and music. So my blog will primarily cover topics in these subjects.

By way of introduction, I was born in California and have lived here my whole life (which currently consists of 57 years). I've lived in Culver City, CA for the past 17 1/2 years and work as a faculty assistant at the UCLA School of Law (a fantastic job that I just got a year ago). I have a life partner of 23 years (going on 24 as of Jan. 1) and we rent a nice old house in a quiet neighborhood that we share with our two cats, Scooter (aka Scooterpie) and Angus (aka Jinky Puddin').

Since I started working at UCLA I have spent a lot of my free time there exploring the campus and doing some bird watching. There's actually some great birding to be done there and each season brings new surprises. I've kept a bird journal since last December, so I've almost gone the complete seasonal round with my feathered friends. In future posts I'll share some of my sightings and photos.
Well, I think that's all for tonight. I need to hit the hay so I can get up early; I like to get to work at least 45 minutes early so I can go for a walk around campus. That's generally the best time to spot the birds--when the campus is fairly quiet.

[This post was written whilst listening to Neil Young's "Cinnamon Girl" "Down by the River" "Harvest Moon" and "Cortez the Killer."]

Pleasant dreams!

RAH RAH! You've got the blog up and running! And, may I add, with a fantastic choice of sonic wallpaper while composing your entry.

Looking forward to reading on ~

~Post Number One~

Urban Wild is already a beautiful blog, and I'm glad I found you at the beginning so I can follow your muse as it unfolds...

Nature & Music!!!

Nature is my religion and I believe music is humankind's greatest achievement.

We have a huge music collection and something's always playing at Earth Home Garden.

I notice we have nearly identical tastes in music too Linda.

Have fun with the blog Linda, and I've linked you to Earth Home Garden
