NRDC: Crude Substitute: The Folly of Liquid Coal

Okay--listen up! There's going to be a lot of banter this election season about energy - oil in particular. I suspect that a lot of Americans are already hip to the fact that drilling for more oil on US soil or offshore is not the answer. But another dirty little trick is bound to surface: Liquid Coal.

Don't be fooled. This is NOT a viable option. In fact, it is worse than oil when it comes to pollution, especially during the manufacturing phase. It will promote even more of the horrific practice of mountaintop removal coal mining, which literally lays the surrounding environment to waste.

This is not the future we want for America. We do not want continued air pollution and the destruction of our environment as the price to pay for energy. We have the technical know-how to go electric/solar/wind/steam. But it will be an uphill battle to get the oil kings and oil guzzlers to admit that they are running out of their prime resource. Rather than plow even a portion of their profits from gouging the public with high gasoline prices into renewable energy sources, they are badgering our representatives in Congress to let them have more gas leases offshore and in the ANWR.

Please take some time to watch this informative and eye-opening video from National Resources Defense Council (NRDC) on "The Folly of Liquid Coal." Then go write your congressperson and tell them hell no--no more coal!
